Easter-Themed DIY Ideas to Add a Vibrant Touch to Your Festivities
The Easter holidays are a time of celebration, rest and, for many, a time to get creative! If you are looking to add a DIY touch to your celebrations this Easter season or looking for extra gift ideas to add into the Easter basket, look no further than these two DIY craft ideas that will be sure to add a pop of colour and fun to your space. Using materials sourced from our Brunswick Street store, we have created a Paper Easter Egg Ornament and a Bunny Rabbit Garland!
Paper Easter Egg Ornament
The Easter holidays are a time of celebration, rest and, for many, a time to get creative! If you are looking to add a DIY touch to your celebrations this Easter season or looking for extra gift ideas to add into the Easter basket, look no further than these two DIY craft ideas that will be sure to add a pop of colour and fun to your space. Using materials sourced from our Brunswick Street store, we have created a Paper Easter Egg Ornament and a Bunny Rabbit Garland!
Materials Needed
To create the Easter egg ornament you will need:
– Pen or Pencil
– Paper of your choice (we’ve used Zetta Florence Handmade Paper)
– Scissors
– Double Sided Tape
– Twine or Ribbon
– Egg Stencil/Outline (TIP: You can create this by drawing an egg on a piece of paper and cutting it to create a DIY stencil)
Extra Creative Option: If you are wanting to add an extra DIY feel to your Easter ornaments, get out your colouring pencils, brushes or painting supplies to decorate the paper with your own patterns!
Method
Step 1 — First place your egg stencil on top of your sheet of paper. Using a pen or pencil, carefully trace around the egg stencil.
TIP: For this ornament, we recommend tracing six (6) egg outlines, however you can do more or less as you please.
Step 2— Once you have all eggs traced, carefully cut around the egg outline until all six eggs have been cut out.
Step 3 — Now that you have all Easter egg outlines cut out, it is time to fold each egg in half! If you are using patterned paper, it is important to fold the egg so that the pattern you want to show is hidden *inside* when folded.
Remember: Ensure you are folding the eggs laterally and as evenly as possible.
Step 4 — Seperate the six Easter egg outlines into two (2) piles of three (3) eggs.
Step 5 — Using the eggs in the first pile, take one egg and proceed to place a piece of double-sided tape on *one* side of the folded egg.
Step 6— Once the tape has been placed, take a second egg and carefully align the two folded egg together, and hold firmly to secure the eggs together.
Step 7 — Add the final egg in the same method to the two already secured eggs. This is one half of your egg ornament.
Repeat for the second pile of eggs to create the second half of your ornament.
Step 8— You should now have two halves of the Easter egg ornament assembled. Take one of the ornament halves and, using another piece of double sided tape, place the tape directly in the middle of the flat surface (this will be used to secure the ribbon/twine down).
Step 9— Cut a piece of twine approximately 15cm long and fold it in half, placing the ends on top of the double sided tape located in the middle of the flat surface. This will create a loop that extends above the ornament to allow the ornament to be hung.
Step 10— Once the twine has been secured on the flat surface of the ornament half, place two more pieces of double sided tape on either side of the twine.
Step 11— Bring both halves of the Easter Egg ornament together (flat sides touching), securing them together to form the complete egg shape!
Your paper Easter egg ornament is now complete! Hang this ornament from any tree or surface as desired!
Bunny Rabbit Easter Garland
The second DIY Easter craft that we will be creating is the bunny rabbit Easter garland – perfect for filling empty wall space and decorating your tables this Easter season. The wonderful thing about this Easter garland is that you can make it as long or as short as you need, as well as giving you the space to experiment the many different Easter shapes you would like to create (You can explore more shapes than the bunny rabbit – consider carrots, Easter eggs and bunny ears!).
Materials Needed
In order to make this bunny rabbit garland, you will need:
– Pen or Pencil
– Paper of your choice (We used Bespoke Letterpress’ Crane & Nancys Garden Wrap)
– Scissors
– Hole Punch
– Twine or Ribbon
– A stencil/outline of a rabbit or shape of choice (TIP: You can create this by drawing your desired shape and cutting it to create a DIY stencil)
Method
Step 1 — Start by laying your bunny rabbit stencil flat over your paper of choice. Use your pen to trace around the stencil. Repeat this step until you have the desired amount of bunny rabbit outlines (this will depend on how long you want your garland to be!).
TIP: Trace on the side that will be hidden from sight when the garland is displayed, this will make your outlines look clean and avoid seeing any pen/pencil marks.
Step 2— Using your scissors, carefully cut the bunny rabbit along the outline you have traced.
Step 3— Once you have all of your bunny rabbit outlines, use your hole punch to create one hole either side of the bunny’s head – this is where the ribbon/twine will inserted to create the garland.
Step 4 — Cut your ribbon or twine to the length you desire for the garland, then carefully thread it through both holes created in each bunny rabbit outline.
TIP: Adjust the postion of the bunnies on the line of twine to ensure there is an even amount of space between each bunny rabbit.
Your garland is now complete! It is now time to display your bunny rabbit Easter garland wherever you wish.
